Self Check-In

When you feel yourself getting upset:

  • Drop down to notice what you feel in your body (wonder What is that; What am I feeling?)

  • Name it (to yourself or aloud if appropriate - simply, i.e. “I’m noticing anger.”)

  • Exhale deliberately, slowly elongating the out-breath

  • Take your attention to your feet in order to ground

  • Wiggle your toes, shake your wrists and continue to exhale

Don’t feel badly about taking this minute to check in with yourself and let the feeling move through you some. This is an excellent example for your kids to witness.
