Effort Matters

As a society, we use the phrase - Good Job- far too much.

I suggest you take this out of your lexicon, along with Good Girl and Good Boy.

In general, we want our children to associate reward with effort not with outcomes. So then, our language has to message this in a consistent way. It sounds more like…

“I see the effort you put into that!”

“I’m so grateful for your helping hands.”

“I notice the way you doing that, taking your time to really put care into your work. Thank you.”

This is so much more inspiring and empowering. And will help them build their intrinsic motivation, the kind that matters most.
