Less is More

When your children get into their upper-elementary years, they will want less from you on a daily basis. Of course, they still need you to run their schedule and drive them around but in terms of the basic interactions of daily life, they’re looking for less.

Though you’re just as curious as ever, try to ask less questions about school and their friends. Despite the investment you have in the experiences you’re funding (and often creating for them), wait for them to tell you about them.

As they slowly part with childhood, they want to feel more independent. An easy way to support this is to be present and around, so when they feel like sharing, you’re there for them to come to and start talking. But, until they come, ask less. Do less.
