Compare Despair

It’s mostly unconscious when we compare people, big or small. But no matter how or who, it never feels good.

As parents, notice when you’re comparing your child to another and catch yourself. Because when we compare, judgement is right there. And as perceptive as children are, this doesn’t feel safe.

Help your kiddos, too, to notice when they fall into comparing. Whether they’re comparing their insides to somebody else’s outsides or outsides to outsides - it leads to despair of some kind.

Practice stopping yourself from doing it and model this for your children. “Compare despair” is an easy rhyming reminder to use.
