No Swimming

When your kids choose their friends, at these young ages, it’s very hard not to want to get in there and help them navigate these friendships.

Don’t.

Imagine they’re in a swimming hole, with their friends, enjoying the water, sometimes being splashed unfairly in the face, sometimes banging themselves into a rock and scraping their knees, other times finding nothing but joy in the refreshing current they’re in.

You are not allowed to swim with them. There’s a big sign on the little beach that’s just for parents. It reads: NO Swimming.

You’re only job is to hold the towel for when they’re ready to get out. Let them figure it out. Be there when they’re cold and looking for warmth. Wrap ‘em up and do nothing else.
