Let Them Have Them
What do you do when your kiddo cries? What do you feel when he/she screams out of frustration? Or when they talk back and throw a fit when you say no?
Oftentimes when our kiddos have big feelings, we backpedal. Naturally, we want to make it stop. It’s uncomfortable. It’s upsetting. Sometimes, it’s downright heartbreaking.
However, your kiddos need to have their big feelings. Let them have them. Otherwise, they’re just stuffed down inside and will come out in unexpected and even more uncomfortable ways down the road, when they can’t stuff anymore.
When they’re allowed to feel their strong emotions, they find out they aren’t their emotions.
Instead, feelings move through us; they come and go. And we’re okay after having them. In fact, we’re able to move forward, usually a little clearer and calmer afterward. This is valuable information.
