Their Inner Voice

Language matters.

Without even knowing it, we’re developing our childrens’ inner voices. How we talk to our children is how they will talk to themselves.

If we’re kind, they will be kinder to themselves.

If we come from a place of comparison or judgment, they’re taught to judge themselves harshly.

If we insinuate doubt in them, they’ll doubt themselves. If we imply belief and patience, in turn, this is what they’ll do.

Consider your words. Feel in your own body how those words feel. And speak in a way that you’d want your child’s inner voice (for life) to sound.

Yes, it’s very hard to always do well, with the speed and nature of family life. All I ask is that you come back, again and again, to reflect on how you express yourself.
