Push Against You

When your little one is acting in a way that shows you that they are frustrated with you, ask if they want to push you. Literally. Physically. Push your body away from theirs.

If they say yes, brace yourself with wide feet so you don’t fall over. Of course, they aren’t allowed to hurt you so let them know where it’s okay to push on your body. Your hip is often a good spot.

And then, let them push with all their might - try to actually push you over. Invite them to push harder. To keep going. Encourage them to push and push (“harder, more, come on”) until they’re done.

This relieves the pressure building up inside and at the same time, allows them to feel their power.

It’s hard being young, when so many decisions aren’t yours to make. Let your little ones push you away when they need to. Show them you’re still in tact, as is your relationship.
