Make Mistakes

When they’re young, our kids see us as perfect. We are the ones telling them what’s right and wrong, guiding and leading them. They look up to us and sometimes, even feel intimidated by the way we ‘seemingly effortlessly’ get a lot right when it comes to what they’re still practicing and learning.

This is why it’s so important to make mistakes in front of them. And, for our young girls especially, point them out!

Show them how normal mistakes are, that we, even as grown-ups, are still learning and practicing too. Show them how to laugh at yourself when you do make a mistake, so they can develop a lightness around being imperfect. Show them how to course correct, redo, reset. Show them how to make amends.

If you’ve told yourself you need to be perfect in front of your kiddos or even perhaps inherited this message unconsciously, I ask you to challenge that idea with the more important task of showing our children that we are human.
