Practicing 'No'
In today’s day and age, there are those among us who don’t say No to their children. My challenge to you is for you to question if this is you and if so, why you might avoid Nos.
It’s actually valuable to be able to say No so that our children know how to do this themselves when they need to draw a line with others. It’s an empowering tool to know how to tell others No and hold a boundary like this. They’ll only learn this well from watching us do it.
At the same time, saying No to our kiddos teaches them what being told No feels like so they can practice responding. How our kids handle their disappointment helps develop their sense of character and prepares them to be out in the real world, where, like it or not, there are going to be plenty of Nos.
Nos are a part of life, and a very important part of growing up. Please, utilize these opportunities thoughtfully and allow your children the practice.
