Informal Mentors
At any age, be thoughtful about who you have around your kids, as far as older boys and girls for them to look up to or even the elders in their lives.
See that they emulate character traits you’d like your kids to be influenced by. Yes, even think about this when choosing babysitters!
As your kiddos embark upon their tween years, it’s still as important to consider though perhaps a little more challenging. Think about not only who your kiddos will connect to, but also who they’ll feel safe enough with to go to with their questions and to share their experiences.
In their adolescent years, they will be happy to have these informal mentors to talk with, as they’ll want other perspectives and places to go, rather than just having you to come to, like they did when they were little.
Girls, especially, can benefit from these types of relationships considering how they differentiate and the changes they go through.
